Pupil Council advise on Cycling Safety

After the Pupil Council raised concerns about cycling arrangements with Head Teacher, Mrs Bruce, a meeting was requested with the Business Manager, Mr Balfour to discuss the childrens ideas on how things might be improved. The Pupil Council considered the options discussed and agreed changes to existing arrangements which were then announced to the school at the Business meeting by the chair of the Pupil Council.
These changes were:

Children cycling to school
  • should enter and leave the car park by the car entrance at the end of the school day and not go through the gates onto the patio.
  • should not cycle on school grounds (including in the School Car parks)
  • should use the cycle/ walkways around the school whenever possible
  • should not cycle the wrong way on one way stretches of road around the school
S    The school advice for cycling to school is that children should not cycle to school before starting cycle training in P6 (term 1) however the responsibility for deciding when a child can safely cycle on the roads will always rest with the parent / guardian irrespective of whether they complete cycle training or not.
