Praise for our Eco Club from Eco Schools Assessment Officer

Paula Love, the Eco Schools Green Flag Assessment Officer recently wrote to our Eco Club to praise what was happening at Papdale. To find out what she said read on.............................

I very much enjoyed reading your application to renew your Green Flag status.  I was delighted to see that you had maintained excellent progress since your last assessment, monitoring your activities well, sharing your successes with the wider community and having sound ideas for the future.  In so doing, you have received welcome, ongoing support from families, the Council, local businesses, community and environmental groups.  Your great links with the RSPB, SNH and Zero Waste are super examples of this collaborative approach.  Well done.  In addition, you have thoroughly integrated the Eco-Schools’ Programme into the curriculum and calendar via Eco-themed classwork such as your Energy and Circle of Life topics, your focus on Sustainable Development Education, Global Citizenship and Outdoor Learning and events such as Earth Hour, Switch Off Fortnight, the Big Schools’ Birdwatch and your Eco Action Day.
You have also taken the children’s learning outwith the campus, for example via your trip to Hoy.  Great work.  Out of doors, you have all been working hard to develop your grounds as a wonderful resource for learning and recreation and a haven for wildlife with the improvements in your pond area, the addition of a willow igloo and creation of habitats.  Finally, everyone is to be warmly commended for your community litter picking activities, as part of the Papdale Bag the Bruck campaign.  Your pupils are truly responsible citizens.  Well-deserved congratulations on an amazing team effort!

A recycled rainbow?

At this week's Business Meeting the Eco Club representatives outlined their idea to recycle crisp bags and make them into a rainbow collage.
The children were asked not to crumple up their empty crisp bags and put them in  a specially marked bin at break time so that they could be collected to make the rainbow.
This could be the first rainbow ever that actually has a pot of golden wonder at the end!

Another two contributions to the Crispbag Rainbow.
