Children in Need Fundraising Record Goes Again!

Once again this year the Papdale record for Children in Need fundraising was smashed with a grand total of £2333.16 reached by the end of a very hectic day. The P7 classes who once again coordinated the fundraising events with a huge variety of games , competitions and activities on offer for the whole school to participate in. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to an amazing total and particularly to all the P7 staff and children who worked tirelessly throughout the week to make this possible .

Badminton Success for Papdale Panthers

A team of four from Papdale won the Primary Schools Badminton Shield on Saturday pipping Glaitness by one point to take the title. This is only the third time that a Papdale team has won this event so well done to Papdale Panthers who won the title and the Papdale Pumas who were taking part as well.


P4./5 Netball Festival

A group of seventeen P4/5 children attended Netball Orkneys Festival on Saturday and really enjoyed the experience. They trained hard at the coaching stations, showed fantastic skills and played really well in the games. Well done to all competitors and helpers for making this happen.

Pudsey says hello at the Business Meeting

Children in Need Week got off to a very exciting start on Monday morning with Pudsey making a surprise appearance at our Business Meeting to say hello to all the children.
The children loved it but the P7's had to work very hard to be heard above all the excitement to tell everyone about their fantastic plans for Children in Need Day. Thank you Pudsey and well done P7's. Roll on Friday!

Rotary Shoebox Appeal gets a good response

The Rotary Club picked up all the Shoeboxes filled with gifts donated by our parents today.
The Picture shows Councillor David Dawson from the International Committee of the Rotary Club posing with representatives from each year group at Papdale before the boxes were taken away for delivery.

MP Visits to meet with Pupil Council

Orkney MP Alistair Carmichael visited Papdale on Tuesday to discuss and raise awareness of the Global Goal,  'Quality Education' which the Pupil Council had chosen to promote.

Schools Invited to the New Hospital Project

Our Pupil Council Chair and Vice chairperson were invited by construction Company Robertsons to visit the new hospital site and become reporters for the day. They were accompanied on the trip by Head Teacher Mrs Bruce and shown around the site where they interviewed a number of the workers to get an insight into how the project was progressing.
Like all good reporters they kept the notes they took and hope to do a presentation of there finding at school in the near future.





Eco Club takes the stage for the End of Term Assembly

Our Eco Club, ably assisted by Fraser MacNaughton, stepped up this week to lead the end of term assembly which included a collection in aid of the Food Bank.
The children (and Mr MacNaughton!) did a great job speaking in front of the whole school.
Thanks also to all the boys and girls who contributed to the Food Bank collection.

Return of the Hoppy Races

Games Parliament decided to restart the Hoppy Races at break time today and despite the very windy conditions lots of children came forward for a shot. It was so busy that the two GP reps on duty decided to have an extra slot during lunch break to cope with the demand!

Hoppy Races will be on every Wednesday at Break times.

Global Goals Week

The Eco Club presented the 17 global goals to the whole school at the Business Meeting this week to highlight the 17 key goals to make the world fairer and safer and how we can paly our part in caring ffor our planet. The three Global goals that the Pupil Groups at Papdale would be focusing on were:

Pupils Council .  4. Quality Education
Games Parliament:  5. Gender Equality
Eco Club:  6. Clean Water and Sanitation

Representatives of all three pupil groups also attended the Parent Council AGM to do a presentation to reinforce the message.

Code Club Invitation

Three of our children recently were invited to the Library to meet with MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville as part of the Code Club initiative run by Orkney Library which encouraged children to get into computing. They had a chance to speak with the MSP and were excellent ambassabors for Papdale School.

Hoy here we come!


P6E were in high spirits as they got on the bus for the first leg of their journey to Hoy. 
They will be doing lots of outdoor activities organised by the outdoor education team.
They will have two overnight stays at the Hoy Outdoor Centre in Rackwick before returning home on Wednesday evening.

4M Enterprise Project Presentation

Helen Cunningham visited P4 class yesterday to talk about Cancer Research UK and collect a cheque for £95 which the class had raised with their Peedie Pets Enterprise project.

Gilmour Shield Football

Four teams from Papdale took part in the recent Outdoor Primary Football Competition at Picky.
Two of the teams made it through to the semi-finals with Papdale D losing out to Dounby and Papdale C going one better and making the final where they also lost to Dounby on penalty kicks after a very close game. Well done to all teams for taking part and contributing to a very enjoyable day.
Papdale C were presented with their medals at the Business Meeting by team coaches Erlend Poke and Magnus Rendall.

P3/4S Trip to The Gyre Woods and The Orkneyinga Saga Centre.

We've had a super day on our trip with the sunshine. Big thank you to the parent helpers, as well as the ones who offered to help! Here are some pictures from our day...
