P7s Farewell

The P7 farewell concert was held in the Infant Hall on Thursday 25th June in front of a large audience of family and friends. This is always an emotional occasion for staff and children as favourite stories are retold and highlights remembered from their time at Papdale.

Wild about Scotland

The Wild about Scotland double decker rolled into Papdale's car park on Thursday 25 June for a visit. The bus has been fully converted to provide a unique teaching space for schoolchildren and provide lessons delivered by the Royal Zoological Society for Scotland Education team.
Both our P5 classes were invited to visit the bus for activities that were designed to create respect for Scotland's wildlife and the importance it plays on wider conservation issues affecting not just Scotland but the whole world.

Staff v Pupils Challenges

The annual battle for the Margaret Hay Shield started on Monday 22nd June with a 3-0 victory for the staff over the Pupils in the football. Two goals from Mr Hill and one from Mr Linklater were enough to seal victory in what was an evenly contested game. The game was well refereed by former pupil Lewis McManus from KGS.

The netball match was played the following day in beautiful sunshine. It was an excellent game, with some beautiful teamwork from the girls. The scores were level at half time but the Staff team just managed to get their noses in front to win by 16-14 by full time.

No Cars Day!

The Eco Club  pose below the Eco Schools Green flag

The Eco Clubs annual Eco Action Day was held on Friday 12th June and this year there idea was to support their transport target and organise a "No Cars Day"at Papdale.
Posters went up around the school and letters went home to parents requesting that cars don't use the car parks at Papdale School on that day and that children walk to school wherever possible.
Even the school bus was redirected that morning to let all the children off at the BB Hall so they can walk the last part of their journey supervised by school staff.
As you can see from the photos the day was a great success so thank you to everyone for making it a Fume Free Friday at Papdale!

8.50am and not a car to be seen in the main car park!

The upper car park is deserted too.

The cycle racks seem busier than normal

Meet the Starlings!

Our Janitors got a surprise today when they were checking the roof space and discovered a family of starlings had completed their very own loft conversion and moved in!
Under a vent in the wall was a huge mound of grass and twigs with a small nest on top. Inside the nest snuggled together were what we think are two tiny starling chicks. While the chicks seemed excited to see Mr Mackinnon and Mr Linklater they would have been much happier if it had been their mum or dad with some more food!

The starlings have been very busy creating their very own scale model of Maeshowe!
Two chicks snuggle up to sleep again when they realise Mr Mackinnon has brought no worms for them to eat!

New ECO code launched

At the Business meeting on 1st June the Eco Club Class Representatives launched their new Eco Code highlighting three specific areas they were wanting to target.
The new poster which the Eco Club had designed to remind everyone about these targets was also introduced to the whole school by the Class Reps,
We would like to share with you our new Eco Code.
L is for Litter but also Love
T is for Transport but also The
E is for Energy but also Earth
So our focus is Litter, Transport ad Energy but to help everyone to remember this easily we have turned it into ‘Love The Earth’.  We hope you think it is quite clever, we like it.
