P3/4S outside learning about length...and trees!

To make the most of the beautiful weather, we went outside for maths today and tried measuring different things we could find in the playground. We used measuring tape and meter sticks, too.

Thanks to photographer Sam Keldie for the photos of maths!

After lunch, we went back outside to learn about our 'Oot and Aboot' topic. We used cards to identify the trees, and then did crayon rubbings of the leaves.

New Hospital gets a helping hand

One of our P1 pupils had the honour of being selected to help cut the first turf of the new hospital project on Monday. He did a great job and was an excellent ambassador for Papdale School.

An informal site inspection
Making sure the equipment works properly
And a quick check that everything is in order before they start work

Flying the flag for Magnus 900 Week

The Papdale tradition of raising the Orkney flag for St Magnus Day was particularly poignant this year with Magnus 900 week celebrations taking place in the school all week.
Two Magnus's from P1 were given the honour of raising the flag with the help of Mr MacKinnon. It was a heavy pull for the boys but they did a great job.
