Papdale books go to Zimbabwe
Gogo Olive families will be able to enjoy the reading books
we no longer use. Ruth Green will send a pack of books to Zimbabwe for the
families to enjoy, which should arrive in about a month’s time. A huge thanks
to everyone who contributed to our Easter Service collection, raising a total
of £105.00 to help the work of the charity.
Gogo Olive provides employment to women who knit their animal toys. The unicorn is one of our favourites! If you would like more information about the
charity you can click on this link:

This week we were lucky to learn that two of the people in the class had won a prize in the prize draw! Chrissie Matthews from the Learning Link came in to school to present these prizes to Josh and Eva.

Cycle Shelters open for business
Our new cycle shelters were officially opened this morning by Tanya Blowfield, chair person of our Parent Council. These shelters were made possible thanks to 50% grant funding from Sustrans Scotland and additional help from our Parent Council towards the total cost.
The shelters provide much better and safer facilities for those cycling or travelling by scooter to and from school. Hopefully this will encourage more of our children to choose this very healthy way to travel.

Earth Hour Panda checks in on the classes for Earth Hour
All our classes were busy saving energy last week by switching off everything unnecessary in the classrooms between 2-3pm each day. Earth Hour Panda did his own spot checks by visiting the classes. Click on the video below to see how he got on (pictures are a bit grainy as they were taken with the lights off!).

P5/6S Eco Project
"5/6S were
horrified to learn that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than
fish. This is only 31 years away when we will be about 41 years
old. As a part of Earth Hour 2019, we are looking at single-use
plastics. For homework this week, we are going to record how many
single-use plastics we use each day. Next week we will look at these and
discuss ways we could cut this down."

Strider Visits to promote healthy home school transport options
Strider made a visit to Papdale on 7th March to promote walking to school. It started with the pop star treatment in the playground before school started with the children very excited to see him.
An assembly followed where it was revealed that Papdale was in the top ten schools in Scotland at promoting walking and other healthy home school trip options.
Strider was out at the front of the school again at the end of the school day to say goodbye to the children.

Eco Club Litter Pick
The Eco Club were busy last week completing the Annual Litter Pick Survey.
The survey involves Eco Club members going out to record the amount of re-cycleable and non re-cycleable litter found in the playground at a set time of day each day for a week.
This helps us to measure how well we are picking up litter by comparing survey results for previous years and hopefully encourages us all to make sure all our litter ends up in the correct bin.
