Bag the Bruck Week

All Classes at Papdale have been out and about on their annual bagging the bruck week at various locations in Kirkwall. The picture shows P3M in good spirits after returning with their contribution from the path to Peedie Breeks Nursery and the Willowburn area.

Eco Action Earth Hour Week makes a difference

      

The Eco Action Earth Hour encouraged everyone in the school to put off their lights and any other electrical equipment, wherever possible, for an hour every afternoon for the week.  The Eco Club took meter readings at 2pm and again at 3pm for that week and the following week to give a fair comparison.The graph shows the amazing difference this small step made with huge savings of 36%.  

Buoyed by this success the Eco Club are now encouraging everyone to do this more often and have suggested we repeat this every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon to help reduce the schools energy costs further.

Papdale Vikings Victorious

The Victorious Vikings with medals and the Reid Crescent Shield.

The last night of the Primary Indoor Football season ended on a high with Papdale Vikings Beating Glaitness Rovers 2-1 to win the Reid Crescent Shield. The Vikings impressed right through the competition winning four games to lift the sheild and conceding only one goal in the process.
Earlier in the evening in the same competition the Mighty Marvels had been very unlucky to lose to a last minute goal against Glaitness Rovers and the Giants, made up of P4 boys also lost to a late goal after going ahead against a much bigger and older Orphir Torpedos side. The other two Papdale teams in this competition, Gladiators and Knights also put in strong displays but lost out to St Andrews Twisters and Hope Terriers respectively.

In the TSB trophy Papdale Dales did extremely well to knock out Stromness Predators in the quarter-finals but lost out to eventual winners St Andrews Hurricanes in their semi-final. Papdale Kings, who had done well to qualify for the TSB trophy also lost to the Hurricanes in the quarter-final.
In the East v West representative Challenge matches it was great to see a number of boys and girls from the Papdale teams had been selected recognising their good play throughout the year.
Mention must go to Papdale Flyers too who weren't involved in the knockout competitions on the night but had finished third in the league making them the highest placed Papdale team.
And finally, a big thankyou to all our coaches. Without their huge commitment and enthusiasm throughout the year this wouldn't be possible.

Parents Nights

Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th March were Parents nights at Papdale. As well as parent's coming in to speak with the class teachers there were lots of other things going on. 

In the school reception area the Parent Council were raising funds by holding a raffle and selling home bakes. The Scholastic Book Fair was also open for business. Elsewhere there was Information on Internet Safety,  the Young Carers Sevice and the importance of drinking water.

The atmosphere in school on both nights was really positive and we hope that everyone enjoyed having a closer look at the children's work on display all around the school.

Lights Out for Earth Hour

Saturday 19th March from 8.30-9.30pm the world will celebrate Earth Hour by switching off lights to raise awareness of climate change. Last year 172 countries took part.

This year the Eco Club have decided to focus on Earth Hour and saving energy for our Eco Action Week by switching off all lights in the school between 2.00-3.00pm every day this week. Meter reading will also be taken to see how much electricity is saved.

Eco club would also like to encourage everyone to support Earth Hour at home on Saturday 19th March.

The Good Health Challenge begins!

Friday lunchtime saw the first Good Health Challenge organised by the Games Parliament. The aim was for everyone to have the opportunity to run or walk around half of the all weather pitch in their lunch break as many times as they could. This was not a race but an individual challenge to give each child a target to aim at next time. Every time each person completed a lap the GP reps issued a sticker. Eight stickers meant that they had completed a mile.

The GP reps were kept busy handing out stickers but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves with about 50 children from P4-P7 taking part,  many completing a mile or more in the 20 minute slot.

The Challenge will be held at lunchtime every Friday for those who want to take part.

Another excellent year for our Netball teams

Once again Papdales Netball teams have excelled in this year's primary tournaments with theWhirlwinds winning the Hjaltland League and also the Knockout Competition. The Cyclones and Hurricanes were 2nd and 6th respectively in the Hrossey League. Well done to all our girls for taking part and a special thanks to our PE teacher, Mrs Smith who has coached all the teams this year.
